DALLAS. Norway or Sweden in the WC?
You can guess who the Danes cheer for…
– We don’t need Danish support to be honest, says Gabriel Gudmundsson.
Denmark missed the WC.
In the absence of Danish dynamite in the US, Mexico and Canada, our southern neighbor must find another team to cheer for. In a campaign, Danish TV2 wanted to use a “referendum” to investigate whether the country’s residents cheer for Sweden, Norway or any other country in the World Cup.
So few voted for Sweden
The support for Sweden was – as expected? – modest, bordering on non-existent.
Norway was crowned the overwhelming winner with 35 percent of the vote. This was followed by Spain (10), Portugal (7), Germany (6) and Argentina (5).
Only then was Sweden glimpsed, which only four percent of the Danes chose to cheer for during the championship.
The same television channel appeared at the national team’s press conference to hear how the Swedish players received the result.
The cold answer: “We’ll manage”
Left back Gabriel Gudmundsson snorted the most.
– I don’t think we need Danish support, to be honest. We are doing well on our own.
Teammate Benjamin Nygren, who previously played club football in Denmark, was disappointed.
– I agree with Gudmundsson. It’s a bit boring. I had hoped for Sweden. But I think the people I’m close to in Denmark are cheering us on.
What were you doing between Norway and Denmark?
– Norway! Nah, I’m just kidding.
