Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz criticized Barcelona’s Spanish star, Lamine Jamal, after he waved the Palestinian flag during his team’s league title celebrations, accusing him of incitement against Israel and promoting hatred.
Lamine Jamal (18 years old) raised the Palestinian flag while he was inside the open-air bus that toured the city of Barcelona, accompanied by his teammates, before publishing snapshots of the celebration, including a picture of him waving the flag, on his Instagram account, which is followed by more than 42 million people.

He added: “Whoever supports this type of message must ask himself: Is this considered a humanitarian act? Is this ethical?”
Katz indicated that he would not remain silent in the face of what he described as “incitement against Israel and against the Jewish people,” calling on FC Barcelona to distance itself from these events, and to make clear unequivocally that there is no place for “incitement or support for terrorism,” according to what he said.
Spanish support for the Barcelona star
Lamine Jamal’s action received the blessing of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, who renewed his country’s position in support of the right of the Palestinians to establish their state, in his comment on the controversy raised by the Jewel of Barcelona.
Sanchez said in a joint press conference held with the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Ghebreyesus, in response to a question about Lamine Jamal raising the Palestinian flag: “Palestine has every right to exist,” recalling that his country had previously officially recognized the Palestinian state.

Sanchez condemned the “genocide” committed by the Israeli army and the occupation government, headed by Benjamin Netanyahu, in the Gaza Strip. He also rejected settlement in the West Bank, describing it as an “illegal occupation.”
Meanwhile, Gabriel Rovian, a representative of the Catalan Republican Left Party in the Spanish Parliament, praised the positive impact that the young Barcelona star had by raising the Palestinian flag.
Ruffian posted on his official account on the X platform: “Lamine Jamal has 42 million followers on Instagram, and has a tremendous influence on millions of other people around the world.”
He added: “Perhaps some of these people today have moved from a state of indifference to denouncing the genocide in Gaza, just because they raised the Palestinian flag.”
Ruffian concluded: “Whether some people like it or not, let’s celebrate it. Lamine has done well.”
