A shocking video clip was spread on social media, showing a Palestinian detainee from the Gaza Strip handcuffed, blindfolded, and tied to a rod extending from his feet to his neck. What was most tragic about the scene was that two of the detainees’ mothers each confirmed that the photo belonged to her son.

The widely circulated photo stirred the pain of mother Rana Abu Nasser and mother Jouda Al-Ghou, both of whom lost their sons in different circumstances, and each one insisted that the photo was of her son.

Israel acknowledged the authenticity of the image contained in the video clip, but did not reveal the identity of the man or where he was detained, and claimed that “this treatment is not in line with the values of its army.”

Rana, the mother of detainee Osama Abu Nasser, says that since she saw the picture, she was convinced that it was of her son, but what she noticed was that his weight had decreased to half of what it was, and this is evidence of the ill-treatment he is receiving.

This mother confirms that this is the first time she has seen a picture of Osama since his arrest near the “yellow line” in the Gaza Strip last March. There has been no news of him, even though some told his family that he was in Sde Timan prison and then transferred to another place.

Osama was arrested with his young son, who was later released, with burn marks on his legs. The family says they are burn marks from cigarettes, but the occupation army denies this, and claims they are effects of warning shots on the ground.

My heart broke

For her part, the mother, Jawda Al-Gha, could not control herself while talking about her detained son, and said that the picture was of her son Amin, who was arrested in November 2023.

This mother insists that the hair and beard of the man in the picture are those of her son, Amin. She says that a mother’s heart does not make mistakes, and confirms that she hugged the picture on the phone and kept crying and crying until they took the phone away from her.

This mother expressed her extreme pain, saying that her heart broke when she saw the picture that she believed was of her son, Amin. She wondered with sorrow and pain why children were being tortured and how cruel the people who commit these acts were.

Israel detains thousands of people from Gaza, many of whom were detained without charge or trial under Israel’s “unlawful combatants” law.

Many Palestinian families are cut off from news of their loved ones and children, which causes them to experience great suffering. This is the case with the two mothers who live in a state of eagerness and anticipation for answers, in the absence of confirmed information about the identity of the detainee who appeared in the video.
