Madonna is also just an aunt who loves purple

Return the jacket immediately

Madonna is one of the largest. I understood it when I was sitting on a bench in front of MTV and for the first time saw the ethereal music video for “Frozen”. There she sits, alone in a cracked desert landscape, wrapped in dark fabrics that slowly fall to the ground and explode into a flock of birds. Madonna is not just a star, no. She is a witch who casts a spell on her audience.

How else is one to explain that a woman who has reached Swedish retirement age still holds pop culture in an iron grip, in a world that likes to retire women much earlier? The answer is perhaps simpler than you think, and can be summed up with the introduction to a poem by Jenny Josephs from 1961: “When I am an old woman I shall wear purple”. The world is ruled by aunties who love purple. Madonna is no exception.

When Madonna visited Coachella during Sabrina Carpenters concert this year, she did it wearing pieces from her own fashion archive: long gloves, a silky lavender nightgown and corset, purple panties and knee socks with lace. But the headlines after the concert were about the theft of the iconic dark purple leather jacket by Frida Giannini for Gucci Resort 2006, a garment that Madonna often wore in various variations during performances of the original album “Confessions on a Dance Floor”.

When she now again takes the world by storm with the sequel “Confessions II”, a tribute to electronic music and the dance floor, it is through this special color. A color that leaves an impression and creates debate! Think “The Color Purple” by Alice Walker, or “Purple Rain” by Prince. According to the local police, however, the purple garments had not been stolen, but had fallen off a golf cart in a hurry. They are still on a roll. Regardless, whoever you are: return Madonna’s jacket, bums!
