Mahrez played 122 matches with Al-Ahly, scoring 37 goals and providing 46 assists, and won two consecutive AFC Champions League titles with the team.
The Algerian Federation honors Mahrez
Earlier today, the Algerian Federation honored Mahrez (35 years old) after the player announced his retirement from international football following a busy career with the national team that spanned 12 years, describing him as a “natural leader” who will leave behind a great legacy.
The Algerian Federation said on its official website, “Mahrez will leave behind a great legacy that will remain engraved in the memory of Algerian football, after playing 119 international matches during which he scored 40 goals and provided 45 assists, becoming the second best scorer in the history of the national team, in addition to his great influence inside the green rectangle thanks to his consistency in level and his ability to decide major matches.”
He added, “Mahrez’s career was full of historical milestones, starting with his contribution to the team reaching the round of 16 of the World Cup in 2014 for the first time in its history, then leading Algeria to win the African Cup of Nations in 2019 in Egypt, before adding a new achievement by leading the team to the second round of the Cup.” The world in 2026.
