Jürgen Klopp, 59, is said to be the dream candidate for the job as German national team captain.
Julian Nagelsmann, 38, is expected to be fired according to Photo.
Both Bild and the Sky journalist Florian Plettenberg reports that Nagelsmann’s time as national team captain will soon be over.
Bild writes that Nagelsmann still had the job when he landed in Munich at 09:33 on Wednesday morning, but that the final decision on his dismissal will be made shortly.
Völler has changed his mind
Germany crashed out of the World Cup after a penalty shoot-out loss to Paraguay and still haven’t reached the round of 16 at the World Cup since gold in 2014.
National team manager Rudi Völler supported Nagelsmann immediately after the loss against Paraguay. But he is said to have changed his mind now because the failure was “far too great” and because the list of Nagelsmann’s mistakes is “far too long”.
If the football association fires Nagelsmann, he is entitled to about half of the salary on the contract, which actually extends to the summer of 2028, writes Bild. This means that he would receive a payment of approximately SEK 77 million.
Klopp is positive
Jürgen Klopp has not had a coaching job since leaving Liverpool two years ago, but he is said to have signaled “a strong desire” to step up if the German Football Association believes the country needs him.
The association’s vice-chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke has a lot of influence in the matter and he also has a close relationship with Klopp since their time together at Borussia Dortmund.
