The Bar Association urges its members to refuse to give legal advice to asylum seekers, reports Ekot. This in connection with the government’s tightening of the asylum law on 12 July.
The Asylum Act is tightened as a result of the EU’s new Asylum and Migration Pact being introduced into Swedish law. The change means, among other things, that legal assistance in the asylum processes is replaced with two to three hours of legal advice.
Lawyer Karin Gyllenring in the Bar Association’s working group for migration law issues tells Ekot that this could lead to more incorrect deportation decisions.
The Bar Association is now demanding that the government withdraw the rules on discontinued counsel, which is an adaptation to the EU’s minimum level, and is calling on its members to refuse the new assignments.
