The eighth issue (July 2026) of Al Jazeera Journal of Communication and Media Studies was published, including a special research file that includes the proceedings of the scientific conference “International Media and the War on Gaza: Guides of Discourse and the Conflict of Narratives,” which was organized by the Al Jazeera Center for Studies in cooperation with the Department of Language, Culture, and Communication at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Hamad Bin Khalifa University on November 29 and 30, 2025.
The file covers a group of studies that examine the factors influencing the international media’s coverage of the war on Gaza, by analyzing the determinants of media discourse production, the mechanisms for constructing narratives, and the professional and political frameworks that control the selection and representation of events, as well as studying the image of the actors in the war and the mechanisms for shaping international public opinion.

The issue also discusses the comparison of media coverage of the war on Gaza with coverage of the Ukrainian-Russian war and the Iraq war, and reviews forms of propaganda and falsification of facts, the role of the Israeli media, international media institutions and social media platforms in managing narratives, in addition to the problematic relationship between professional ethics and political agendas in times of conflict.
An elite group of researchers and academics from a number of Arab and international universities are participating in the research file, including: Dr. Nader Dagher, Dr. Shahira bin Abdullah, Dr. Bushra Zakagh, Dr. Lahcen Al-Hasnawi, Dr. Farid Abdel Fattah Abu Dhair, Dr. Islam Hilal, Dr. Nasr Al-Din Layadi, Dr. Wafaa Abu Shakra, and Dr. Abdullah Bakhash.
The issue also includes a new article in the “Modern Media Dictionary” section, written by Dr. Muhammad Ahmed Ibrahim, within the framework of the knowledge project that the Al Jazeera Center for Studies is working on to develop a specialized dictionary in media and communication concepts.
In the section on book reviews, the issue publishes a reading by Dr. Muhammad Uriah in the book “Licence to Kill – Gaza: Genocide, Denial and Hasbara” by the French researcher specializing in geopolitics, Pascal Boniface. The review addresses the main theses of the book, and stops at his analysis of the political, media and legal mechanisms that he believes have contributed to providing cover for the continuation of the war on Gaza, while providing a critical reading of the most prominent strengths and aspects that require further research.
This issue comes as a continuation of the interest of Al Jazeera Journal for Communication and Media Studies in following up on contemporary media issues, and providing a scientific platform for researchers to study the transformations of media discourse and analyze competing narratives in the coverage of international events, thus contributing to the development of knowledge in the field of media and communication.
