NEW JERSEY. The Swedish WC summer is over.
The question of whether the Swedish players now hope that neighboring Norway or France will become champions divides the team.
– I’m sticking with France, says Gustaf Lagerbielke.
The Swedish players have to pack their bags and fly home after the loss against France.
In the mixed zone afterwards, the Swedish players agreed on everything from the team effort to the fact that the national team has a bright future.
But one question divided the players.
Do they hope Norway or France win the World Cup now?
For Gabriel Gudmundsson, there was no doubt in the answer, the 27-year-old believes that it was the future champions who knocked out Sweden.
– Yes, it’s hard to say anything else with that squad and the quality they possess.
Do you now stick with the team that knocked you out?
– Yes, you can do that.
Before Norway?
– Yes, one hundred percent! After all, I have played in France for four years and met some of them and know a little about the French. I just wish them the best of luck.
“Then you can hold your head higher”
Gustaf Lagerbielke is on the same track:
– If I have to guess any team, I think France will win the World Cup. It will probably be the case that they stick to France now. Then you can hold your head higher when you went out against the team that won.
Jacob Widell Zetterström did not want to answer the question if the goalkeeper will stick to Norway or France for the rest of the championship.
– I don’t know… I can’t answer that, says Widell Zetterström with a smile.
“Know many”
Benjamin Nygren, on the other hand, hopes that Norway, which faces Brazil in the round of 16, will go far in the championship.
– I don’t want things to go badly for Norway. I wish them well and hope they go far in the tournament. It is, after all, Scandinavia, I feel. I still hold the neighboring countries in high regard, says Benjamin Nygren, who has played with several of the Norwegian national team players in various club teams.
– I know some Norwegian players. I have played with Andreas Schjelderup in North Zealand and we are good friends and I have played with Sander Berge at the beginning of my career when I played in Genk. A good guy who I became good friends with there too. Kristian Thorstvedt too. They are all great guys and great men so I wish them the best.
