NEW JERSEY. Sweden’s WC is over.
But it is not Victor Nilsson Lindelöf’s time in the national team.
– Right now I feel that I have more to give, says the team captain.
Before the round of 16 against France, Victor Nilsson Lindelöf told that he had not thought about the future in the national team.
He made his debut ten years ago, has played 80 A international matches and turns 32 in just over two weeks.
In March, Nilsson Lindelöf also talked about the fact that this would be his last World Cup, if Sweden made it here.
He was the first out of the mixed zone of the Swedish players after the World Cup exit and left a message about the future.
– I am always happy and proud to be here. We have more to collect in this team. Right now I feel that I have more to give in the national team, says Nilsson Lindelöf.
Swedish joy: “Means a lot”
The team captain is positive about the future.
– I am proud of the boys and the way we got into the tournament. We were way down at the bottom not too long ago. I have strong faith in the squad and these players. We have a good mix of ages. If we can continue to develop as we did during the WC, I see a bright future, says Nilsson Lindelöf.
The news of a continuation pleases attacking star Viktor Gyökeres.
– It means a lot. Everyone wants him to continue playing with us in the national team, says Gyökeres.
Only goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt (age 37) and fullback Ken Sema (32) are older than Nilsson Lindelöf in the WC squad.
Sweden lost against France 0–3.
