Ikea has presented a new savings package.

Just over 850 can go from Ikea.

During the morning, the furniture giant presented an extensive savings package to the staff.

– What is on the fringes gets less priority when we focus, says Ikea’s finance director.

The Ikea company Inter Ikeawith employees mainly in Sweden and the Netherlands, has presented a large savings package.

By the summer, roughly 600 employees will leave the company, followed by another 250 after the summer.

At least 300 of these are in Sweden. Mainly, it is employees in Malmö and Älmhult who are affected.

“This is not an easy decision. We are very keen to handle the process and our employees with care, respect and openness – guided by our IKEA culture and our values,” says Ikea’s CFO Henrik Elm in a press release.

It is the third time in a short time that employees at Ikea have been forced to leave the company.

Two weeks ago, it was announced that the department store in Borlänge is to be closed. 230 employees at the department store now hover in uncertainty about what will happen to their employment.

Lost since last year

The background to the savings is that the furniture giant has had some really tough years since the pandemic.

The operating result for Inter Ikea Group, which owns the furniture giant’s brand, landed the last financial year at just under SEK 19 billion, DI reports.

This is a clear drop from the year before, when the result was approximately SEK 25 billion.

“We have to become faster, have shorter decision-making paths and less complexity. What is on the fringes gets less priority when we focus. As part of that, a number of employees are affected,” continues CFO Henrik Elm.

Inter Ikea owns the furniture giant’s brand and is responsible for development and production of the range, while the Ikea company Ingka runs the majority of the world’s Ikea stores.

Inter Ikea is one of 13 franchise companies within Ikea. Inter has approximately 25,000 employees worldwide.
