British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan shake hands during the NATO summit in Ankara.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan offered a gun as a gift to each of the leaders attending the NATO summit in Ankara, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said.

Starmer told British journalists that the guns were engraved with the name of each individual leader and were accompanied by a box of ammunition, the British Press Association said according to AFP.

Starmer says he had to leave his gift in Turkey, however, because it would be illegal to bring the gun back to Britain, despite a letter from Erdogan lifting export controls on weapons.

It is unclear what kind of gun it is.
