Activists circulated on social media platforms a video clip documenting the moment a parachutist fell on a highway in the Manali region of the state of Himachal Pradesh in northern India, after losing control of his parachute while flying over the area.
The video shows the adventurer trying to direct the parachute towards an open space to avoid colliding with vehicles or nearby residential areas, before he made an emergency landing on the road and hit the ground close to the passing cars.

Local accounts reported that the accident occurred in the Rayson area on the highway linking Chandigarh and Mandi, and that the paraglider was forced to perform this maneuver after a sudden change in the weather condition and wind direction prevented him from reaching the landing site designated for the paraglider.
Traffic disturbance and serious injuries
According to Indian media, the emergency landing caused a temporary disruption to traffic on the highway, before drivers were able to stop their vehicles or slow down to avoid collision with the parachutist who fell on the asphalt, without serious injuries being recorded.
The Indian Express newspaper reported that residents nearby rushed to help the parachutist and move him to a safe area away from the road, before informing the relevant authorities of the accident, which commentators described as “escaping a greater disaster that would have been possible” had the landing coincided with the passage of a truck or bus.
