After the IOC’s decision to allow Russians to participate in the Olympics, more are said to be on the way.
Now Fifa is also considering letting Russia into the heat, according to Sky Sports.
Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Russia and Russian teams were banned from participating in competitions organized by Fifa and Uefa.
Now that is said to be about to change.
According to information to Sky Sports, the international football federation will “formally discuss lifting the ban against all Russian national teams”. The data comes after the IOC earlier on Monday gave the message that Russian athletes will again be allowed to participate in the Olympics starting in 2028.
– Fifa has taken note of the IOC’s decision to temporarily lift the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee, ROK. Fifa will analyze the decision before we decide on the next step, in coordination with relevant stakeholders, a spokesperson for the confederation states for Sky Sports.
Have admitted youth teams
Fifa has already decided to allow Russia’s P15 national team to participate in the youth World Cup that will be held in Azerbaijan in October.
In February, Fifa’s president, Gianni Infantino, also told Sky Sports that they “must consider” re-admitting Russian teams.
– This suspension has achieved nothing. It has only created more frustration and hatred, Infantino said.
