Italian Carlo Ancelotti, coach of the Brazilian national team, confirmed that the Seleção is about to begin a “new cycle” in its efforts to achieve its sixth World Cup title. This came in the wake of the team’s exit from the round of 16 in the 2026 World Cup, following its loss on Sunday to its Norwegian counterpart with a score of (1-2).
In a press conference held after the match, Ancelotti said: “I do not think this is the end, but rather the beginning of a new cycle,” acknowledging at the same time that the Brazilian team did not provide “a good World Cup, and we must continue working.”

The 67-year-old coach – who recently renewed his contract to lead the Brazilian national team’s coaching staff until 2030 – added: “We will deal with the sadness of exit. We will accept this defeat and use it as fuel for the new cycle of progress.” He added: “It is a very disappointing result, but we have a very good group, and the players made great efforts despite the loss. We also have to analyze what happened to do things differently.”
The Italian coach – who is having his first unsuccessful experience at the helm of a national team after a busy career in elite football clubs – indicated that the basic workshop for the five-time world champions will be concentrated in the midfield, explaining: “It is clear that we need to change some players in the midfield. We need new players and young talents.”
Since his arrival to supervise Brazil, Ancelotti had given the opportunity to the young attacking duo, Indrik and Ryan (19 years old each), and stressed in this context by saying: “The national team has a solid group of high quality, and new players can join.”
The Brazil coach continued his speech by saying: “It is clear that everyone is very sad, like the fans, and this is understandable, and we must respond quickly. I try to be a role model for everyone. I have always loved football and I will continue to do my job.”
In his analysis of the course of the match, Ancelotti explained that the Brazilian team had “many opportunities” during the first half, continuing: “We imposed our control, and Norway was closing its defense and its players were positioned in advanced areas, and excessive pressure was fraught with danger.”
The Italian concluded by referring to the tactical changes in the second half, saying: “Andrik came in to give us more depth and add quality in the final third, and we also brought in Neymar. We tried to maintain the pace of play and press in advanced areas, but after that Norway and Erling Haaland started to widen the gap.”
