Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo commented on the news circulating before his team’s confrontation with Croatia in the round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in America, Mexico and Canada.
The Portuguese newspaper A Bola reported that Katia Aveiro, Ronaldo’s sister, had hinted that his international career was nearing the end, before facing Portugal, which beat Croatia 2-1, and after the match Ronaldo commented on those statements.

Ronaldo said in statements to Sport TV after the match: “Cristiano’s future is not important now. I will talk to my family, and it will happen whether we win or lose. I no longer make decisions hastily. Now everything has been done calmly and we will try to enjoy today.”
Ronaldo spoke about Croatian star Luka Modric, whose team was eliminated from the World Cup by the Portuguese national team in the round of 32.
Ronaldo said about his former Real Madrid teammate: “After the match, I said goodbye to him and he will remain a great football legend. We are almost the same age. I have great respect for him and everything he gave to football.”
