Thousands of people have made their way to the religious complex where the funeral ceremony for Iran’s former supreme leader Ali Khamenei is to be held, an AFP journalist said. The ceremony has now officially begun, according to Iranian state television.
The main courtyard is filled with people, and people can be seen walking several kilometers to get to the place. People at the scene are shouting “death to the US” and “revenge”, according to AFP.
Extensive traffic restrictions have been imposed in the capital Tehran in connection with the funeral.
The funeral of the ayatollah, who was killed in US-Israeli strikes in the Iran war, is to last six days.
