9 Swedish crime series – here are our favorites to watch this summer

Over the years, several noteworthy Swedish crime series have been producedand people clearly seem to appreciate the genre, both in and outside of Sweden. Cops, murders and mysteries simply go home. We have made a list of some of the criminals that we like a little extra.

The sin – Netflix

In January, the new Swedish crime series had The sin premiere. There, the teenager Silas is found dead on a farm on the Bjäre Peninsula, and the case ends up with the odd but brilliant investigator Dani and her newly graduated colleague Malik. The investigation takes them deep into a patriarchal environment in the Scanian countryside, where a dark family feud has been going on for generations.

Vargas summer – TV4 Play

Vargasommar takes place in Haparanda, where police officer Hannah Wester makes a macabre discovery: a dead wolf with human remains in its stomach. The find shakes the small community to its core. You can find the series on TV4 Play here below.

The breakthrough – Netflix

In 2004, Sweden was shaken by a brutal crime, when two people were stabbed to death in Linköping. In Netflix’s new reality series, we get to see how the investigation makes a breakthrough through genealogy – don’t miss it. Is on Netflix’s top viewing list right now.

End of summer – Sky show time

The end of the summer is a Swedish crime series based on Anders de la Motte’s acclaimed novel of the same name. The series takes place in an idyllic Scanian village where a boy disappears without a trace during a late summer evening, leaving the community in shock and grief. When a grown woman returns to the village years later and begins to investigate the case, dark secrets and hidden conflicts are revealed that no one wants to talk about.

The bridge – SF Anytime

When Swedes and Danes make TV together, it’s demonstrably good. The bridge became an undeniably popular series and over the years has become a real classic in the genre, We get to follow the story of the Swedish police Saga Norén (Sofia Helin) and the Danish police work together to solve intractable murder cases.

Thin blue line – SF Anytime/Cineasterna

SVT’s crime drama Thin blue line has in its three seasons become a great viewer success. The series takes place in Malmö and follows a group of police officers in their tiring working days, where it turns out that it is not always easy to keep private life and work separate. The series gives a dark but at the same time nuanced picture of the police profession. Not available on SVT Play at the moment – you can, however, stream it on SF Anytime or Cineasterna.

Biggest of all – Netflix

Netflix’s very first Swedish original series was called “Greatest of all”. It is based on the book of the same name, written by Malin Persson Giolito. The story has its starting point in a school shooting in a rich Stockholm suburb. An ordinary high school student, Maja Norberg, is quickly singled out as the suspected murderer. Private details are revealed as the investigation progresses and Maja’s relationship with Sebastian Fagerberg and his dysfunctional family comes to the surface.

Bäckström – TV4 Play

The crime drama Bäckström has been a big favorite with tv.nu visitors since the premiere. In the main role we see Kjell Bergqvist who plays the self-righteous homicide investigator Evert Bäckström and his colleague who is played by Agnes Lindström Bolmgren. The series is based on Leif GW Persson’s books and is about a crime where a woman’s skull is found in the archipelago. A mystery that only grows and grows the more the victim’s identity is clarified.

The helicopter robbery – Netflix

An exciting Swedish series on Netflix: The helicopter robberywhere the title gossips about the series’ content. Many certainly remember the spectacular robbery against a safe deposit box outside Stockholm in 2009. A helicopter lands on the roof, the robbers get in and out in just a few minutes and then disappear with several million kroner.
