Belgium made an amazing comeback by turning the tables on Senegal, turning a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 victory after extra time (2-2 at the end of regular time) and reaching the 2026 World Cup final at Lumen Field in Seattle in the round of 32.
Belgium’s French coach, Rudi Garcia, said after the match on the International Federation (FIFA) website: “In football, anything is always possible as long as we believe in it. The strength of this group also lies in the players who participate from the bench, because we cannot achieve results with only eleven players.”

As for Senegal coach Pape Thiaw, he said: “We were eliminated from the tournament, and this is painful. We must congratulate the team that gave everything it had, but unfortunately we were not able to maintain our progress.”
Senegal was on its way to achieving an easy victory when it took the lead with braces from Habib Diarra (25) and Ismaila Sarr (51), but Belgium rose up in the final minutes and responded with goals from substitute Romelu Lukaku (86) and captain Youri Tielemans (89), forcing two additional periods, before Tielemans himself took a penalty kick in stoppage time and scored the winning goal (120 + 5).
Belgium will meet in the next round on Monday in Seattle, with the winner from the United States and Bosnia, who will meet in San Francisco.
