Estimates from an American research center showed that the number of military losses resulting from the Russian and Ukrainian war – which entered its fifth year last February – has exceeded two million victims.

The report – published by the American Center for Strategic and International Studies yesterday, Wednesday – stated that between… 400,450,000 Russians have been killed since the war began in February 2022, out of a total of 1.4 million casualties among the dead, wounded, and missing among Russian forces.

On the other hand, the report stated that – during the same period – the Ukrainian forces suffered human losses ranging between 125,000 and 150,000 dead, in addition to between 525,000 and 625,000 wounded.

The center pointed out that the number of Russian deaths in Ukraine is four times greater than the number of American deaths in all the wars the United States has fought since World War II, and it is also more than nine times greater than the number of Russian deaths in all conflicts since World War II as well.

The same American center had stated – in a report issued last January – that the total Russian and Ukrainian military casualties may reach about 1.8 million people, and may rise to two million people by last spring.

It was estimated at the time that Russia had suffered 1.2 million casualties – including up to 325,000 dead troops – between February 2022 and December 2025.

He stated that Ukraine suffered between 500,000 and 600,000 military casualties, including up to 140,000 dead.

Since the outbreak of the war, Russia – based on data from the Institute for the Study of War – has succeeded in controlling about 19% of Ukrainian territory, in addition to the Crimean Peninsula, which it annexed in 2014.

The pace of attacks has recently escalated between the two sides, as military operations focus on targeting vital installations, while international efforts have failed to reach an agreement to end the war.
