What will happen to Sweden’s cultural history photo collections if the war comes?
Now 37,000 culturally significant images from the Maritime History Museum, the Army Museum and the Railway Museum are being digitized in a collaborative project.
The Nordic Museum and the State Museums of Maritime, Transport and Defense History, SMMTF, previously started a pilot project to digitize unique maritime images from the Maritime History Museum.
Now the collaboration is being extended and broadened so that it also includes historical images of shipping, defense and railways.
“Cultural heritage is the backbone of our common memory. Through digitization, we can both preserve and make available the material that tells and bears witness to Sweden’s history,” says Sarah Elleniusresponsible project manager at the Nordic Museum, in a press release.
