Village People founder Victor Willis is dead.
US President Donald Trump – who often uses the group’s hit song “YMCA” – mourns.
“He was a fantastic and happy person,” he writes on Truth Social.
The Village People announced on Wednesday that Victor Willisone of the group’s founders, has passed away after a short but aggressive illness. He was important to the Village People’s early identity, setting the tone for their mix of disco, theater and distinct roles.
They hit it big in the 1970s, mainly thanks to the hit song “YMCA”. A song like the President of the United States Donald Trump for several years have used frequently at election meetings and other events. Now he mourns the death of Victor Willis.
“He was a great and happy person who appreciated me using his group’s song ‘YMCA’ at my rallies,” he writes on Truth Social.
“Deeply missed”
According to Trump, scores of artists wanted to perform at his election rallies as the Maga movement gained more and more followers.
“But Victor and the group were there for us from the beginning. They loved the atmosphere, and we loved them and their amazing and uplifting song,” he writes.
Trump emphasizes that he will think of Victor Willis every time “YMCA” is played going forward.
“My condolences to his wonderful family and the rest of the group. Victor Willis will be deeply missed. God bless him.”
Victor Willis was 74 years old.
