The investigation into a serious unauthorized position and a serious data breach against a woman who was employed at the Swedish Defense Radio Agency (FRA) is closed.
The woman and her husband, employed by the Armed Forces, were arrested in a high-profile Säpo operation in Stockholm in 2023.
“I have closed the preliminary investigation because a crime cannot be proven. The reason is that it is not possible to interrogate the witnesses who are necessary in all parts. The witnesses are prevented from being interrogated about certain information due to confidentiality,” says chief prosecutor Per Lindqvist in a press release.
Among other things, considerations from the woman’s former employer, FRA, are the basis for the decision to close the investigation, according to the prosecutor.
“In my opinion, the considerations from the suspect’s former employer rest on reasonable positions where Sweden’s security is put first,” says Lindqvist.
The woman and her husband were arrested in an operation in the early morning of October 17, 2023. They were both detained until December 13 of the same year, when they were released. The suspicions against the man were dropped in September 2024.
