Morocco continued its impressive results in the 2026 World Cup, eliminating the Netherlands on penalties on Tuesday morning in the round of 32, after the match’s original and extra time ended in a positive 1-1 draw.
In Monterrey, Mexico, Morocco, which achieved an unprecedented African achievement in 2022 when it reached the semi-finals, deserved to qualify at the expense of the Netherlands, the world runner-up three times (1974, 1978 and 2010), to set up a date with Canada, one of the host countries, on Saturday in Houston.

Morocco coach Mohamed Wehbe said in his statements to beIN Sports: “We needed to calm down and realize our potential. We controlled the match and their goalkeeper blocked exceptional balls.”
Wehbe continued: “Our qualification is deserved. We must sometimes accept winning this way in the qualifying rounds.”
Morocco finished runner-up in its group on goal difference behind Brazil, while the Netherlands topped Japan and Sweden.
