Syrian Central Governor: Reducing fuel prices supports the lira economy

The Governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Muhammad Safwat Raslan, confirmed that reducing the prices of oil derivatives is a positive step that will reduce production costs, support market movement, and influence economic activity.

Ruslan said In a post on the X platform in the evening The stability of the Syrian pound does not depend on monetary policy alone, but rather begins with a productive economy, active investments, and mutual trust between the state, the citizen, and the private sector.

Raslan pointed out that every measure that contributes to enhancing production must ultimately be in the interest of the stability of the lira.

He added that the Central Bank will continue the path of maintaining monetary stability and enhancing confidence in the Syrian pound in cooperation with various concerned parties, considering that the strength of the national currency is a natural result of the strength of the economy.

Yesterday, Saturday, Syrian Energy Minister Muhammad al-Bashir approved a reduction in the prices of petroleum derivatives ranging between 14% and 20%, after studying the technical and economic data related to the reality of the petroleum products market. According to what was reported by the Syrian SANA agency.

The Minister of Energy said in a blog post on the X platform: “Today we took a new decision to adopt the petroleum derivatives price bulletin, based on the recommendations of the specialized permanent committee, which works according to a careful study of the technical and economic data, ensuring thoughtful decisions that achieve a balance between market stability, the sustainability of the availability of petroleum derivatives, and the interest of citizens.”

The Ministry of Energy stated that the new approved price bulletin, which entered into force as of the date of its issuance, included the following:

  • Octane gasoline (95): Reduced by 20.39%, bringing the price of a liter to 130 new Syrian pounds.
  • Octane gasoline (90): The reduction reached 19.97%, bringing the price of a liter to 125 new Syrian pounds.
  • Diesel: Reduced by 14.37%, bringing the price of a liter to 107 new Syrian pounds.
  • Home gas cylinder: The discount reached 15.5%, bringing the price to 1,500 new Syrian pounds.
  • Industrial gas cylinder: reduced by 15.49%, bringing the price to 2,400 new Syrian pounds. (The dollar is equivalent to 119 new Syrian pounds)

For his part, Director of Government Communications at the Ministry of Energy, Ahmed Al-Sulaiman, confirmed that the pricing mechanism has become dependent on periodic and flexible review, so that prices are adjusted upward or downward when there are objective justifications based on clear data and standards, in a way that achieves justice and transparency and serves the interests of citizens and the national economy.
