The artist Thomas Stenström was in Almedalen a couple of days ago. There he organized an event during SD party leader Jimmie Åkesson’s speech.
Stenström also organized one celebrity appeal for the climate which was published in Aftonbladet.
“We want politicians who mobilize people’s power to change to a sustainable society under fair forms. Leaders who build trust and protect the community. Leaders who respect the will of the people,” he wrote, among other things, in the appeal.
After he was in Almedalen, he flew to Dallas to watch the match between Sweden and Japan.
In connection with that, the Swedish Football Association put up a post on X. A clip with the text “Thomas Stenström on a visit to Dallas”.
“Acute climate threat”
This caused Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard to react.
“The same Thomas Stenström who was just in Visby and started an appeal for the climate. Preach morals first, fly later!” she wrote in the post.
When Aftonbladet gets in touch, the foreign minister develops his reasoning.
– Of course we will cheer for our Swedish national team. And days like these, when heat records are broken in several Swedish cities, we are reminded of how acute the climate threat is. But perhaps you shouldn’t throw the first stone in the climate culture war if you’re going to fly across the Atlantic two days later, she says.
She has not yet answered the follow-up question about whether it is reasonable for ministers to question the travel habits of individual citizens.
