DALLAS. Björn Hamberg leaves the national team after the WC, even though he is open that he wanted to continue in Blågult.

Andreas Georgson looks to do the same, but opens the door wide for a continuation.

– A deal is a deal, but in that case we will have to see in the future, he says.

The quick version

Both Björn Hamberg and Andreas Gergson joined the national team’s leadership staff when Graham Potter took over as the new national team captain.

The duo has a contract over the World Cup playoffs, and regarding Hamberg, it is clear that he will leave Blågult after the playoffs to concentrate entirely on the head coaching assignment in Elfsborg.

– Yes, it has been clear that I will step down after the WC, just as we agreed. It is exactly as it has been from the first day I took over Elfsborg and the agreement with the association, he says.

Would it be too divided to continue driving with both the national team and Elfsborg?

– No, I’m pretty black and white in situations like this. When Elfsborg appeared, I had an agreement here that I obviously wanted to fulfill.

– Then Elfsborg with Stefan Andreasson and Sune (Lundkvist, chairman of Elfsborg) were so wonderful that it was okay for me to drive both and then I had an agreement with them that now after the WC it is Elfsborg that is the full focus.

However, Hamberg is open that he would like to continue in Blågult.

– Absolutely, I would have liked to continue. You are representing your country and you are in an environment that is absolutely incredible. Then it is an absolutely incredible environment in my everyday life as well. I am on a journey there which I must respect. I have a family that I also want to be close to 100 percent and it is a lot of sacrifice to make both.

Georgson has a similar plan with Tottenham, but there the answer if he leaves the national team after the World Cup is not as definitive.

– It is quite similar. Tottenham released me for the qualifiers, playoffs and a possible World Cup. We haven’t had any further discussion since then, he says.

What do you want yourself?

- I have enjoyed every minute during these collections. You have come back into the Swedish community, football culture and I have really enjoyed it.

– But a deal is a deal and there we are. We have chosen not to have any more discussion than that, then we will have to see in the future.
