Samsung revealed the latest generation of its storage technology under the name “UFS 5.0”. The new technology succeeded in maintaining a constant transfer speed of up to 9.5 gigabytes per second and reached a speed of 10.8 gigabytes per second, surpassing the speeds that were possible from previous technologies, including “PCI 4” for computer disks.
According to a report published yesterday, Tuesday, by the American technical website “PC Magazine,” the South Korean company is promoting the “UFS 5.0” technology as a technology suitable for the era of artificial intelligence, as well as being able to significantly increase the speed of mobile devices and phones while maintaining their thin and small size.
Samsung also promised – according to the report – that it would provide several improvements to the technology during the coming period, because the results it reached are just a first version and do not fully reflect the technology.
The report stated that the new chip comes with 40% lower power consumption than previous generations, in addition to its small size and thickness of up to 0.9 mm, which makes it very suitable for use in mobile devices.
Improvement up to twofold
The SamMobile technical report yesterday, Tuesday, revealed the difference in writing speed between the UFS 5.0 technology and the previous generation, which had the number 4.1, indicating that the difference is double because the speed in the old generation stops at 4.3 gigabytes per second compared to 9.5 gigabytes per second in the newer generation.

This huge difference in the speed of writing and reading between the two generations represents a qualitative shift in the mechanism of using mobile phones, away from even artificial intelligence, according to the report, as it leaves room for companies to improve the quality of cameras, whether in still images or video clips, because the memory is now able to receive large files more quickly.
This also applies to running applications, including games. The high speed of transferring and reading to and from memory contributes to running large-sized games with an advanced graphic level without traditional restrictions.
Harnessing in upcoming products
The “Sam Mobile” report states that the company intends to use this new technology in its upcoming devices, including the “Galaxy S27” devices that will be unveiled early next year, as happened with the “S26” devices in the past.
It is also expected that Samsung will use the new memory in its augmented reality glasses, and we may see it in the tablets and laptops that it will launch.
Companies can also use these memories in portable gaming platforms, because they come with a space of up to 1 terabyte.
Does memory speed affect artificial intelligence?
Storage chips and their speed greatly affect applications that operate via local storage away from cloud storage, and because many artificial intelligence companies have begun to move to running models locally via phones and computers, the storage speed directly affects the capabilities of these models and their response speed.
The impact will be directly reflected in making artificial intelligence faster and more capable of accessing data without increasing the rate of standards it can use or even affecting its actual power and the quality of its results.
