The Brazilian national team achieved an expected and convincing victory over its Scottish counterpart, 3-0, in the third round of the 2026 World Cup groups.
Brazil has topped its group in every World Cup since 1982, and the last time it qualified as runner-up in the group in the 1978 edition behind Austria.

Scotland is also now the only opponent that Brazil has faced 11 times or more in all competitions without suffering any defeat (won nine matches and tied two matches), surpassing Austria (won seven matches and drawn three), while Brazil is also the only team that Scotland has faced five or more times without achieving any victory.
Vinicius’ record numbers
Vinicius Junior’s four goals in the 2026 edition equaled the record for the most goals scored by a Brazilian player in the group stage of a single edition of the World Cup, equal to Ronaldo (in 2002), Neymar (in 2014) and Jairzinho (in 1970). He also contributed to eight of the last 15 goals scored by the Brazilian national team in the last two tournaments.
Vinicius Junior became the fifth Brazilian player to score in all three group stage matches in one edition of the World Cup, after Jairzinho (in 1970), Romario (in 1994), Ronaldo and Rivaldo (in 2002); Brazil won the title on each of those previous three occasions.

Carlo Ancelotti has become the first Italian coach to reach the knockout stages of the World Cup since Fabio Capello did so in 2010 with England.
Neymar also became only the fourth player to represent the Brazilian national team in four different editions of the World Cup, joining Djalma Santos, Cafu and Pele. He participated as a substitute for the first time in the tournament (his 14th match), 981 days after his last match with Brazil (October 2023).
Bruno Guimarães made scoring contributions in six of the last 11 matches he played with the Brazilian national team in all competitions. He is also the player who has provided the most assists for Brazil since 2022 (11 assists), and he is the second player to provide more than one assist for Brazil in a single World Cup match in the twenty-first century, after Kaká against Côte d’Ivoire in 2010.
At 19 years and 325 days, Ryan became the youngest player on record (since 1966) to provide an assist for Brazil in a World Cup, surpassing Muller (20 years and 132 days) against Northern Ireland in 1986. He is also the sixth teenage player to start a World Cup match for Brazil, and the first since Marco Antonio in 1970 (19 years and 128 days).
Scotland have made 400 or more successful passes in a World Cup match for the second time on record since 1966 (448), the other time being against Brazil (440 in 1982), with Lewis Ferguson making 87 of 92 passes, the most for any Scottish player in a World Cup match on record.
With Scott McTominay’s header in the 49th minute, Scotland ended a 200-minute drought without a shot on target in the 2026 World Cup, since John McGinn’s goal against Haiti in the first round.
