Moroccan national football team coach Mohamed Wehbe confirmed that the “Atlas Lions” are aiming to win the World Cup title, and they must aim for it because they have the capabilities to do so.
Wehbe said in a press conference that followed qualification to the round of 32 by defeating Haiti 4-2 on Wednesday, “Morocco, as I said before the World Cup, has entered a new phase: the phase of self-belief. The players believe, the fans believe, and the opponents respect Morocco. We are entering a phase in which we must believe in the possibility of coronation and we must aim for coronation.”

The coach, who led the Under-20 Atlas Cubs to victory in the Chilean World Cup late last year, added: “How do we achieve that? By being 200% in every match, respecting everyone, and preparing for every match with the same seriousness. I believe very much in the work that we do. We have all the ingredients to be a great football nation, so we must believe in that.”
He continued, “I am naturally satisfied with our result today. We won a match in the World Cup. I think it was also a match. If you look at the statistics, I do not think we achieved such numbers in the World Cup, with a large number of chances and great dominance. They had, I think in the first half, two shots from which two goals came, and then a shot in the 90th minute that (Yassine) Bounou blocked. I am satisfied with all the players, it is not easy. I am satisfied with the team, because in the end we dominated.” Really for the whole match.”
He added, “We would have liked to take first place. We won 4-2, and we conceded two goals. Well, this is football, and this is the World Cup. They also had their chances, because they took a lot of risks. They had nothing to lose, so they played a lot with long balls, and they had two or three players up front in counterattacks. Therefore, it was a complicated match because of that, but not because of our quality or strength, because we have many strengths in this match.”
Wehbe explained, “We will work to correct everything: mentally, technically, tactically, and physically. We always analyze matches and strive to improve. The most important thing is the intention and desire to score. I see progress in this aspect, so I am confident.”
