On Thursday, a bird forced a helicopter carrying Israeli President Isaac Herzog to make an emergency landing at a military base in Israel.
The Israeli army said – in a statement – that the plane, which was transporting Herzog from Jerusalem to northern Israel, was forced to land at a military base.
He added, “During a routine trip for the head of state on board an Israeli army helicopter, the helicopter landed at an air base in central Israel after colliding with a bird. No injuries or damage were recorded.”
The statement explained that the plane’s crew was transferred to another helicopter, as part of routine procedures, and they resumed their journey.
For its part, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority indicated where Herzog was going, saying that he was on his way from Mount Herzl in Jerusalem to northern Israel to offer a condolence service, when a bird collided with the UH-60 Black Hawk Owl helicopter they were carrying.
The authority noted that following the accident, the helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing at the Palmahim Air Base in the center of the country.
