Demands measures for the climate and democracy

Over 200 celebrities demand change.
They want to see stronger measures for both the climate and democracy in Sweden.
“This is not a right- or left-wing issue – this is about our common future,” they write in Aftonbladet Debatt.
Lars Winnerbäck, Lisa Nilsson, Marie Goranzon, Thomas Stenström, Alexander Skarsgård and Daniela Rathana. These are just some of the more than 200 celebrities who have signed a call for politicians to take stronger measures to save the climate and protect democracy.
In an article on Aftonbladet Debatt, they emphasize that the climate and human rights have fallen further down the agenda in recent years.
“Portrayed as extreme”
At the same time, they believe that alarms from researchers and experts are ignored.
“Instead of acting, current rulers crack down on the messengers – those who point out the danger of system collapse. Expert bodies and facts are sidelined on basic democratic issues, and those who exercise their right to protest are painted as extremists,” they write.
They further refer to international experts who have warned that democracy in Sweden is on the decline.
“We want politicians who mobilize people’s power to change to a sustainable society under fair forms. Leaders who build trust and protect the community. Leaders who respect the will of the people,” they write.
Want to gather the people
The celebrities emphasize that there is support for a powerful climate policy as well as for democracy and diversity.
“Ahead of the election, the politicians are trying to fill the Swedish flag with their own interests. We have created this call to gather everyone who wants to defend democracy and the climate. This is not a right or left issue – this is about our common future,” they conclude.
