Controversy involving Lamine Gamal
Before the Cape Verde match, the Spanish coach said that Gamal’s inclusion from the bench would depend on the circumstances of the match, as the 18-year-old player returned after recovering from injury.
He probably did not anticipate the need to resort to Jamal in an attempt to win the match, and although the young player added some liveliness to Spain’s performance during the last twenty minutes in which he participated, it was not enough.
Nico Williams participated as a substitute in the last minutes, and it is possible that he and Jamal will have the opportunity to participate primarily this time, with the exclusion of Gavi, who did not perform effectively, and Ferran Torres, who is suffering from a decline in performance.
The coach must now make a decisive decision, as Jamal is not physically ready to play the full 90 minutes, so it will be between starting him in the hope of accomplishing the task, or keeping him on the bench again.
