Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz has reached an agreement with the country’s largest union. The agreement is expected to lead to an end to the several-week-long prostheses in the country.
Widespread protests have been ongoing for at least six weeks in Bolivia, in which President Paz has been called on to resign due to, among other things, a weak economy.
At the beginning of May, several roadblocks were set up outside major cities at the urging of the trade union movement Cob. The protests have been violent at times, with clashes between demonstrators and police. Even government buildings have been stormed.
An agreement has now been reached between the organization and the president.
– From now on, the protest measures are suspended throughout the country, says Mario Argollo, chairman of Cob.
A number of the roadblocks were already removed earlier this week, according to AFP.
