Just days after President Trump hailed a 60-day peace agreement with Iran, elements of the deal appear to be unravelling. Tehran has announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, despite a provision in the agreement guaranteeing the safe passage of commercial vessels

Iran says the pact’s first principle – the immediate cessation of military operations, including in Lebanon – has been breached. It accuses Israel of continuing air strikes in Lebanon since the agreement was signed. Israel, meanwhile, says it is responding to repeated attacks by Hezbollah.

As tensions rise and fears grow over the consequences for regional stability and global energy markets, FRANCE 24’s Gavin Lee speaks to former Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert about the fighting in Lebanon, Israel’s position and the complicated US-Iran deal negociations.
