Both the US and Iran state that the countries have signed the Iran deal.

The confirmation from the president himself comes after he was received at the Palace of Versailles by his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron for a dinner in conjunction with the G7 meeting.

State Iranian media state that the document was signed by Iran, reports Bloomberg, referring to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The document is said to have been signed by Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian.

The agreement applies with immediate effect and the Strait of Hormuz will immediately be opened, says Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of the mediating country Pakistan on X during the night of Thursday. He further writes that the planned signing ceremony in Switzerland will still take place on Friday.

The purpose of the early signing was, according to information provided to Axios, so that the strait should be able to open already before Friday – something that both Iran and the United States must have agreed on. Another factor may have been that the United States, according to the site against Iran’s wishes, published the 14-point draft agreement earlier on Wednesday evening.

According to the settlement, a negotiation period begins in 60 days from when the agreement is signed. This includes, among other things, that the United States and Iran cease military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon, and that Lebanon’s territorial sovereignty is ensured. In addition, the US must lift its blockade as well as its sanctions against Iran, including those decided by the UN Security Council. In exchange, Iran must, among other things, not acquire or develop nuclear weapons.
