Donny Strathie traveled to the US to watch Scotland in the World Cup.
There he died suddenly, aged 76.
Now Scottish supporters are planning to honor him in the meeting with Morocco.
For the first time since 1998, Scotland participates in the World Cup and family friend Lynne tells the story STV News that Donny Strathie had traveled to Boston with his friends.
– He saw this as his last chance. He was 76 years old and you never know when Scotland will qualify again, says Lynne.
“Devastated”
He died suddenly on Sunday. No cause of death has been released, and Lynne says the family is devastated.
– But they still find comfort in the knowledge that he got to devote himself to what he loved most when he passed away.
To be honored during the match
Now Scotland’s supporters association “The Tartan Army” plans to honor him in connection with the match he was supposed to see.
“He had a ticket to the game against Morocco, but never got the chance to realize his World Cup dream. It would mean a lot to his family if we could hold a minute’s applause in the 76th minute of the game against Morocco”they sign X.
Scotland won their opening match against Haiti by 1–0.
The match against Morocco kicks off at midnight, the night before Saturday, Swedish time.
