Jordanian national team coach Jamal Salami stressed that his team deserves to be proud despite the 3-1 loss to Austria, in Al-Nashama’s historic first appearance in the 2026 World Cup finals, stressing that the performance was honorable and does not necessarily reflect the result of the match.
In press statements after the match, Salami said that the result was harsh and unfair against the Jordanian team, which played a strong match, especially after returning the result during the second half through the equalizer scored by Ali Alwan, before the confrontation turned in the final minutes in favor of Austria.

The match witnessed an early lead for the Austrian national team through a wonderful shot from Romano Schmid, before Jordan succeeded in imposing a strong reaction after the break, showing clear boldness in attack and better organization in building the game, which allowed it to return to the atmosphere of the match.
But the experience of the Austrian team decided the confrontation in the end, especially with the presence of high-level players, in addition to the influential substitutes that contributed to tipping the balance, before the third goal was scored from a penalty kick in stoppage time by Marko Arnautovic.

Salami added that the real difference between the two teams was not in the overall performance, but in the quality of the players and deciding the opportunities, noting that his team faced a team that included names active in major clubs such as Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
The Jordanian coach also expressed his regret for the absence of striker Yazan Al-Naimat due to injury, stressing that his presence would have given the team greater offensive options and could change the course of the match, before concluding his speech by emphasizing that the Jordanian team will continue to compete in the group despite the difficult start.
