Kylian Mbappe climbed into joint third place on the men’s all-time FIFA World Cup scoring chart after scoring twice in France’s World Cup 2026 opener against Senegal. The brace took the France captain to 14 World Cup goals, drawing him level with Germany great Gerd Muller and moving him clear of Lionel Messi and Just Fontaine.

Still only 27 and playing in his third World Cup, Mbappe now trails only Brazil’s Ronaldo (15) and Germany’s Miroslav Klose (16) on the all-time list, putting him within touching distance of one of football’s most coveted records.
