A water dispenser broke during the break between Norway and Iraq.
Instead of spreading, it became a puddle.
It is part of the routine that the pitch is watered at half-time to make the ball roll faster on the grass. This also happened in last night’s World Cup match between Norway and Iraq at Boston Stadium.
But one of the sprinklers stopped sprinkling water. Instead, it pumped out all the water in a large puddle at the penalty area that Norway would have in the second half.
Officials rushed there and it became feverish work to cover the pool with sand before the second half. One official was so stressed that he accidentally made a sliding tackle straight into the pool.
– There is a mini swimming pool in that area, says expert Irma Helin Zibanejad in TV4’s broadcast.
In Norwegian NRK’s broadcast, the expert Kristoffer Lökberg talked about the broken water sprinkler being a problem.
– It is critical. They fail to water during the break. It is disastrous for the pitch, which is already dry, says Lökberg.
