Although the United States and Iran announced that they had reached a preliminary ceasefire agreement and lifted the naval blockade of Iranian ports, American ships that participated in implementing the blockade are still deployed in the Arabian Sea, tens of kilometers from the Omani coast.

Satellite images analyzed by the Al Jazeera Network’s open source unit showed the continued positioning of three American ships among the military units charged with implementing the American blockade of Iranian ships and ports.
Where is the positioning based?
Pictures taken yesterday, June 15, show the US amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli and the amphibious transport ship USS New Orleans, along with the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer.

According to the geographical analysis conducted by the unit, the nearest American military unit is about 47 kilometers south of the Omani coast in the Arabian Sea.

The deployment range of the three ships also extended over a distance of approximately 74 kilometers in the waters of the Arabian Sea, from the nearest piece to the farthest area off the Omani coast.
The “Tripoli” entered the area of responsibility of the US Central Command in March 2026, after moving from East Asia to the Middle East as part of US naval reinforcements that arrived in the region, carrying on board marine forces, aircraft and helicopters capable of carrying out landing and maritime interception operations.
The US Central Command (Centcom) had also previously published pictures and clips showing the three ships carrying out operations in the Arabian Sea, including aviation operations and marine movements, as part of what the US command described as measures related to imposing maritime restrictions on ships heading to or leaving Iranian ports.
The fleet ignores Iranian ships
This coincides with an announcement by official Iranian media that the United States has begun lifting the naval blockade on Iran, after reaching a memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran to end the war.
Iranian television said – late Monday/Tuesday night – that the first ships crossed the US naval blockade area without problems, adding that an Iranian oil tanker and a ship loaded with fodder crossed the area towards Iranian ports.
Press TV also reported that the United States had begun lifting the naval blockade imposed on Iran, indicating that “three oil tankers and two ships carrying Iranian goods were able to breach the blockade.”
The Iranian Fars Agency quoted sources as saying that during the past hours, several Iranian ships were able to cross the sea blockade line without any problems.
Days before the opening of the strait
US President Donald Trump wrote on his “Truth Social” platform that the Strait of Hormuz will not open until after the official signing of the Iranian agreement next Friday.
Trump wrote: “With the opening of the Strait when the agreement is signed on Friday, for the purposes of clearing mines, oil will flow from both sides again to the region and the world!”
Iranian Tasnim News Agency, citing unnamed sources, also reported that the Strait of Hormuz will be opened after the signing of the framework agreement next Friday.
