An Antonov AN-32 military transport plane belonging to the Indian Air Force crashed on Saturday while landing at the Jorhat Air Base in the northeastern state of Assam.
The accident resulted in the death of 5 people, and the army – in a statement – expressed its regret over their deaths without revealing the identity of the victims, offering its condolences to their families.
The cause of the accident was not immediately clear, and the Air Force confirmed that it would form an investigation committee to determine the cause.
Agence France-Presse quoted an officer – whose name was not mentioned – that the co-pilot survived the accident, without additional details about his health condition or the number of people on board the plane.

Indian media showed scenes showing thick columns of black smoke rising above the base, followed by pictures of the wreckage of the Russian-made plane.
The accident comes three months after two Indian Air Force pilots were killed when a Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter plane crashed in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam.
In 2019, a plane of the same type that had taken off from the Jorhat base, near the Chinese border, crashed, killing all 13 passengers and crew members.
The Indian Air Force has about 100 aircraft of this old Russian twin-engine model, which is used in many air transport missions.
