During the 2026 FIFA World Cup, there are mandatory breaks in the middle of both halves.

The three-minute interruptions have so far been a bit of a watershed.
Within the international football association, Fifa, they are satisfied with the new rule, but the former world champion Bastian Schweinsteiger not a big fan.

He continues:
– The ball slides faster and as a player you have to adjust. A few minutes earlier, the ball might not have moved quite as fast. And then it suddenly slides much faster again.
Schweinsteiger thought he saw that the players had problems after the watering.
– I noticed that the passing game became choppy. I don’t think it’s a very good idea to make the pitch so wet, says Schweinsteiger.
