Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Wednesday that his country had targeted a Russian military facility hundreds of kilometers east of Moscow last night with Ukrainian-made missiles, something Russia acknowledged, also announcing its interception of hundreds of Ukrainian drones in various areas of the country.
Regarding this rare use of the most prominent local Ukrainian weapons, Zelensky said: “Last night, Ukrainian FB-5 Flamingo missiles struck a military factory in Cheboksary that supplies the occupation army with components for drones and missiles.”
Cheboksary is the main city in the Chuvashia region in central Russia, located a thousand kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
The Ukrainian president published a video recording showing a missile flying towards its target, and clouds of smoke rising above Russian facilities, and Russian regional governor Oleg Nikolayev confirmed that the city had been hit.
Nikolaev said via the Telegram application: “This morning, Cheboksary was subjected to a missile attack, and we are working to determine the number of victims and the extent of the damage to the infrastructure.”
Ukraine also struck an oil refinery in the Samara region in Russia and a Russian tanker in the Black Sea, according to what the Ukrainian General Staff announced.
Recently, Ukraine has increased its strikes on Russian territory, more than 4 years after the start of the Russian war on Ukraine. Ukraine has developed “Flamingo” missiles, but their use is still relatively limited.

On the other hand, the Russian Ministry of Defense said today that Ukrainian attacks targeted deep into Russian territory during the night, while 326 drones were intercepted across the country.
Russian channels on Telegram reported that a refinery in the city of Samara, located on the banks of the Volga River in western Russia, was among the targets hit by the strikes.
Local authorities reported that two infrastructure facilities were damaged in the Vladimir region, east of Moscow, while reports on Telegram said the two sites were also linked to the country’s oil industry.
An alert was also activated about a drone attack in the city of Omsk, located in Siberia, 2,800 kilometers from Kiev, which includes the largest oil refinery in Russia. But there have been no reports so far of an actual attack.
In another attack, a drone targeted a historical museum in the city of Sevastopol on the Crimean Peninsula on the Black Sea, which Russia seized from Ukraine and annexed in 2014.
in contrast, Russia launched drone air strikes on Ukraine overnight, with the border city of Kharkiv the most affected. The regional administration stated that there were 26 air strikes that occurred during a short period, resulting in the injury of 5 people.
The Ukrainian Air Force recorded the flight of 207 Russian drones at night, 181 of which were reportedly intercepted.
