The Portuguese national team expresses its sadness.
A 77-year-old man died at the Leiria stadium ahead of Portugal’s World Cup replay.
“The national team will do everything to dedicate their first victory during the WC to his memory,” writes the association.

Portugal won their World Cup replay against Nigeria 2–1 after goals from Pedro Neto and Francisco Conceição.
But the joy on turned afterwards to grief.
A 77-year-old supporter suffered a cardiac arrest minutes before the start of the match, reports A Bola.
The man was taken to hospital but his life could not be saved. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
“Extreme pain”
Portugal’s football federation expresses its sadness in one statement.
“We deeply regret the death of a supporter who suffered a cardiac arrest before tonight’s game”one writes and continues:
“In this moment of immense pain and sorrow, the Portuguese Football Federation and the national team express their condolences to the supporter’s family and friends. The national team will do everything to dedicate its first victory in the 2026 World Cup to his memory”.
