Israeli, Russian and Iranian film directors should not be threatened with “annihilation” to atone for “criminal governments” that they themselves oppose.
Among others, the actor Natalie Portman and the director Justine Triet write this in an open letter published in Le Monde.
The background to the letter is that the Israeli film director Nadav Lapid not come to Marseilles international film festival, July 7–12.
Although he is strongly critical of the Israeli government, his invitation caused anti-Israel directors from other countries to withdraw their films.
Nadav Lapid has been living in France since 2021, and was invited to sit on the festival’s jury. His film “Ken” is a satirical depiction of Israel.
