The Trump administration planned to declare 2.7 million people dead in the United States.

The only problem was that they were still alive.

The move is said to have been an attempt to pressure immigrants to leave the country, a former head of the Social Security Administration told the Washington Post.

Using one of the government’s most important databases, people would be erased from the US financial system. In this way, they could potentially be cut off from wages, banking services, government benefits and other services.

Jeremiah Schofield had been working at the agency when he chose to resign in October.

He tells the Washington Post that the Trump administration was preparing plans to register about 2.7 million living people as dead. Among them are said to have been both US citizens and permanent resident immigrants.

“Couldn’t believe my ears”

Jeremiah Schofield refused to help carry out the plans, and agency lawyers reportedly warned that such a falsification could violate federal law.

The plan must have been part of Elon Musk’s Doges work, whose mission was to reduce the country’s expenses.

Schofield has provided details in a 49-page whistleblower report to the Senate Finance Committee and the Senate Permanent Investigations Committee. There he writes, among other things, that the plan would have “devastating consequences” for the people concerned.

He tells of a meeting where an official at Doge is said to have said that the goal was to “make immigrants so unhappy that they would leave the country themselves or seek help from the social security office, where they could be arrested.”

“That conversation was one of the most disappointing I’ve had in my 25-year career,” he told the Washington Post.

– I was shocked and could not believe my ears.

Does not comment on the data

Lauren Bis, a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security, would not respond to the newspaper’s questions about the plan, but said sharing information between agencies could be beneficial. She also criticizes the Biden administration’s immigration policy.

– Information exchange between authorities is crucial to identify which people are in our country, including violent criminals, to determine which threats to public safety and terrorist threats may exist so that we can neutralize them, as well as to map which public benefits these foreigners are taking advantage of at the expense of taxpayers, she says.
