RALEIGH. For Vegas quarterback Brayden McNabb, last night’s Stanley Cup final ended in hospital.
He was hit by an impact shot straight in the face and was injured so badly that he needed emergency treatment.
– Very difficult to watch, says team captain Mark Stone.
It was at the end of the first period of the second Stanley Cup final between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Vegas Golden Knights at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh that the unpleasant accident occurred.
Danish home forward Nikolai Ehlers fired a shot, measured at a speed of 140 kilometers per hour, and it just happened to hit Vegas defender Brayden McNabb near the mouth or nose.
The 35-year-old Canadian fell to the ice but quickly got to his feet and then rushed quickly – not to say panicked – into the dressing room.
Later, the Golden Knights announced that he had been taken to a local hospital.
– It was very difficult to see. Brayden is such a good person and teammate, says team captain Mark Stone afterwards.
How seriously injured McNabb is, there was no information late last night.
– I have not spoken to our healthcare staff yet. We’ll see tomorrow, is all coach John Tortorella has to say.
