Navigational data monitored by the Al Jazeera Network’s Open Source Unit showed that the targeted ship left the port of Umm Al-Qasr in Iraq yesterday, and was heading to Qatar, while its ownership record indicated that it was managed by a Swiss-based company.

Marine Traffic platform data indicated that the ship bearing the marine identification number (8715857) changed course yesterday at 01:35 pm in a reverse turn, and also increased its speed, in reference to the time at which it was attacked.
Backgrounds of Iranian targeting
On June 29, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it had targeted the ship “Lyan Star,” claiming that it was crossing international waters, heading towards an Iranian port in the Gulf of Oman.
Centcom said it issued more than 20 warnings, notifying the ship that it was violating the American blockade, before it targeted the ship by firing a Hellfire missile at the engine room.

The American forces in charge of implementing the naval blockade of Iranian ports disabled five commercial ships and redirected 116 other ships, while the ceasefire with Iran continued in effect.
