The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that it intercepted 95 Ukrainian drones in just 4 hours, while Kiev targeted a Russian ship in the Caspian Sea.
The Ministry of Defense explained – in a post on Telegram – that 95 Ukrainian drones were intercepted within a period of only 4 hours in different regions of central and southern Russia.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that Russian air defense units intercepted more than 50 drones heading towards the capital over a period of about 15 hours.
The Ministry announced that it “will adhere to a ceasefire for a period of 3 days, starting from midnight on May 8 until the 10th of the same month,” on the occasion of the celebrations commemorating the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.
In turn, Sobyanin explained – in a long series of messages via the Telegram application – that the total number of drones that were shot down between approximately 11 am yesterday, Thursday, and 2 am today, Friday, exceeded 50 aircraft. He added that emergency teams were examining the debris on the ground.
In Kiev, the Ukrainian army announced – yesterday, Thursday – that it had targeted a Russian ship in the Caspian Sea, noting that the ship was capable of launching Kalibr cruise missiles.
The Ukrainian General Staff stated – in a statement published on its Facebook page – that the strike targeted a Karakurt-class corvette.
The army also published a thermal image that it said showed the ship after the attack, and it was likely taken by the drone that carried out the attack, while the exact extent of the damage is not yet clear.
According to Kiev, the ship was stationed in the city of Kaspiysk in the Russian Republic of Dagestan in the North Caucasus.
Ukraine recently reported carrying out multiple strikes targeting Russian naval assets, including ships from the Black Sea and Baltic Sea fleets.
Since the beginning of the Russian war on Ukraine more than 4 years ago, Russia has used its naval fleet, including ships stationed in the Caspian Sea, to launch missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, often using Caliber missiles.
